Awards for students of the Academy of Music and Opera at Mälardalen University

In November 2020 Rebecca Hellbom, opera student at The Academy of Music and Opera at Mälardalen University, won 1st prize in The Swedish Wagner Scholarship Competition. She competed against finalists from the other Academies of Music and Opera in Sweden!Opera student Sara Bäck, mezzo-soprano at the Chamber Opera Program, has received Anders Sandrews large educational scholarship of 60.000 SEK! She was one of two singers in Sweden to receive this scholarship.Marcus Bartoletti, baritone at the Chamber Opera Program at The Academy of Music and Opera at Mälardalen University, will this summer be the cover in the role of Ping in the opera Turandot on the international stage Opera på skäret. Unfortunately it has been canceled due to the pandemic.Alba Gutierrez Malmbom, coloratura soprano at the Chamber Opera Program, has in tough competition received a role in the opera Tintomara at Läckö Castle Opera, which was to be performed this summer but due to the pandemic it has been postponed until next season.In the audition for the Vadstena Academy’s baroque opera 2021, about 150 applicants from Sweden and around the world were heard. In this very tough competition Karin Mobacke, soprano at the Chamber Opera Program, became one of the few selected. The cast of 7 singers (for the main roles) comes from Italy, Russia, Austria and Västerås. The production’s premiere will be moved to next summer due to the pandemic.After a site visit with singing at The Academy of Music and Opera at Mälardalen University, The Anders Wall Foundation has now made the joyful decision that our opera students are eligible to participate in the audition for scholarships in this prestigious context.
